LOOP OF TRANSITION | Education Centre
2020 | H.D. GRAHAM RESERVE, VICTORIA| M.Arch Studio B
This brief conceptualizes, researches, and creates an architectural intervention with ‘Trans (space)’ as a point of entry to the programs that could be described as being under a definition of ‘mental’, ‘physical’ and ‘social’ spaces.
The site is quiet due to its restricted access and activities available on site but active as it serves the high recreational demands of the nearby residents. With that, there arises the opportunity:
• to improve interactions with the site’s natural features
• to provide better site connectivity, and
• for tourism potential and passive recreational value
In celebration of the culture of the aboriginal heritage on site, the architecture comprises a loop of transitional space. It forms a space that transitions visually and physically, transitioning between
• physical; which is the type of space,
• social; intrapersonal to interpersonal, and
• mental; which is to bring back memories through activities.
This results in an interplay between play and creativity, teaching and learning, creating and curating. The superimposition of intrapersonal and interpersonal space, establishes a symbiosis relationship -
• between present and history,
• between man-made and nature, and
• between heritage culture and modern culture.
