The client's intention was to give back to society through a varied series of public amenities including a jewellery visitor centre, an art gallery, a coffee bar-cafe (in response to the growth of the coffee-culture in Malaysia) and to create a new public realm that promotes interactive streetscapes and pedestrianism.

The initial design concept idea came from the word 'vernacular'. One of its meanings is to draw influence from tones of culture and dialect. It is a process to draw homage from designs of buildings, paying attention to what is built today to be used for the future. 'Vernacular' was set out with the intention to be against the grain of the landscape of capitalism.
