TAMIL METHODIST CHURCH
2022 | PERSIARAN ANGGERIK VANILLA, KOTA KEMUNING
The shape and form of Kota Kemuning reminded us of a plateau, and with the church locating at ONE edge of it, inspired us with the idea of the church as situated on the cliff of Kota Kemuning. With that, the team was inspired by the Bible verse,
Then he saw the Kenites and spoke his message:
“Your dwelling place is secure, your nest is set in a rock;
(Numbers 24:21, NIV)
Thus, the building as a new marker at the edge of the city takes its building form inspiration from the folds and dips of a cliff profile. Monolithic structures with strong shadows casting onto the folds of the building mass emerges as a place marker of Kota Kemuning.
The foyer recreates the feeling of the inner recess of a cave to create a sense of shelter, guiding church members into the spacious, light-filled sanctuary space. The sanctuary is designed as a cavern within a cave system with dramatic skylight above the altar, like a passage of light into the world.
As this project was already ongoing, my main task was to carry out minor design adjustments in order to obtain the Planning Permission and subsequently to get the Building Plans approved.
