WANDER TO WONDER ABODE

As the project is located in Semenyih, we have asked ourselves what its context is like and why the client has chosen to move to a suburb as their retirement house. 

According to an oral story, the name Semenyih is a Malay word, originally 'sembunyi' which means "hidden". Thus, while we were exploring the site and its context, we realized that the town is enclosed among hills and is definitely “an escape” from the hustle and bustle of the city. Furthermore, the journey through the suburb is maze-like and as we found our way through the suburb, we were surprised by expectancies which brought us to the concept of wander to wonder.

With the idea of creating a wander to wonder space form, I was inspired by the skyline of the suburb. Looking afar from the clubhouse located on a hill, I saw layers that were created by the sky, clouds, mountains, hills, forest, and housing developments surrounding the site. From there, we explored the layers of vertical and horizontal elements.
